As video content becomes increasingly popular, it’s about time that your business prioritises video before you get left behind.

Just ask The Buggles, although you’ve probably never heard of them, and they’ll tell you that video did indeed kill the radio star. That was back in the 1980s when shiny suits were all the rage, and the Ronald Regan era was just about to begin for the USA. However, as shiny suits have made a reappearance, as too has video content; however, this time, it symbolises the death of its sophisticated subling, photography.

Let’s be honest, since our love-hate relationship with social media began around 15 years ago, video has kind of been in the back of our minds. We’ve loved long-form Youtube, but that was mainly for listening to our favourite 90’s RnB and indie music after a few too many.

However, in recent years, what we want has changed, and now it’s time to formally say hello to short-form video before it’s too late.

We aren’t suggesting that this form of lovable and interactive content is about to go anywhere, but we would recommend getting involved quickly before all of your competitors already have.

In this blog, we will talk about the reasons behind the video resurgence and hopefully help you make sense of why it’s so essential for your business.

Platform strength

If you’re old enough, you’ll remember the short-lived success of Vine. The platform that appeared one evening and swept across the nation like wildfire. However, the short-form video platform ran into some trouble and was ripped away from us before we could even comprehend losing it.

Luckily for us, and at the time, we didn’t even know it, only the month before, TikTok had been born. Given, it took a few years to get its foot in the door of the British market, but once it has, it hasn’t looked back, and neither have we.

It isn’t just TikTok that has produced the video boom. Instagram quickly leapt on board with the release of Reels, and Snapchat seems to have been ever-present and quietly developing for years.

So why is video content so popular?

It’s what we wanted!

Looking at studies in 2018 and 2019 into the behaviours and desires of social media users. It was almost a clean sweep that we wanted more video. Video was leaking into our feeds, and even if we didn’t know why, we understood its value, which intrigued us enough to commit to it.

Having heard recently from Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, about how much growth video content was driving for the creators. Being video-less is simply not an option for those wanting to create long-term social media success for their businesses.

Videos get all of the engagement!

Strictly speaking, they don’t get ‘all of the engagement’, but they certainly get more, that’s for sure. If you sign onto your social media platforms this second, we guarantee you’ll get some video content within five seconds.

This is down to the fact that videos tend to perform better with the underlying algorithms of social media platforms. This is because videos hold the user’s attention for a more extended period of time, which makes sense. And more time spent on the social app is exactly what the platform wants, it all makes sense when you put it like that.

In fact, Twitter posts with videos attached are said to gain ten times the engagement as a post without video. Start making video; you know it makes sense.

When it comes to content creation, we have our fingers well and truly on the pulse at Create8. Whatever form of content you need, we can build and strategise so that your business sees all the benefits of your social media presence.

Video content can be repurposed

One brilliant benefit of video content is that it can be repurposed really easily. We have seen this become a trend within businesses across sectors, as TikTok and Instagram reels use the same format, and the audiences have a similar level of intent.

Repurposing your content makes up for the time it takes to make great video content. Think about cutting your videos into smaller sections to use on Instagram and Facebook stories too. The more visibility, the better!

Your audience loves videos

Finally, and possibly most importantly, videos have become the most popular form of content because your audience loves them!

Every person will end up staying to watch a video if they’re the target market. It’s undeniable that videos grab our attention more than still posts.

Think about how personable a video can be compared to a photograph. With video content, your potential clients can get a little slice of you, and after all, that’s what they want. People who understand the ethics and mentality behind a business are far more likely to purchase from there.

You should be aiming at every opportunity to humanise your business and create a bond with your clients. If you aren’t creating video content, you’re missing out!

Who are your clients? It’s important to remember that video content is incredibly popular with generation Z. They make up over 35% of TikTok’s users and a large portion of their highest-paid creators too. If your product or business relies highly on the Generation Z audience, it’s time you start planning, filming and editing videos.
