How we work

We’ve been instrumental in the growth of all kinds of ecommerce brands in a wide range of industries, from multi-generational household names to ambitious young brands striving to make their mark.

From our diverse experience as an ecommerce marketing agency, we know that sustained growth can only be achieved when clear, integrated marketing strategy meets expert-level implementation and performance-driven management.

This doesn’t mean massively increasing marketing investment from day one. It means getting a crystal clear plan of what your marketing tactics need to be across all the different channels that are relevant to your target audience, and then planning how you will implement these tactics in sustainable, growth-driven phases.

At Create8, we’re experts in quickly seeing the big picture for ecommerce brands – something that traditional digital marketing agencies miss. From the start, we get to grips with your industry, your target customers and your commercial goals. We pick up where your brand is up to, fill in any gaps where needed, and create a crystal clear strategy that clearly breaks down:

  • How we will introduce your brand and products to new members of your target audience
  • How we will convert them into paying customers
  • How we will retain them as repeat customers.

Once the strategy is set, we then establish the best way to implement it. This includes breaking the full strategy down into manageable phases to launch at separate points, based on aspects such as:

  • Which channels and tactics offer the greatest rewards for the lowest cost
  • Where the biggest strategic opportunities are
  • Your current marketing budget
  • Any other factors that are key to your brand and its goals

This phased approach ensures your marketing tactics are introduced at the right time, in the right order and with the right commercial impact for your brand.

Most agencies take each month as it comes and try their best in the moment. We don’t.

We set clear performance targets every month – targets that are challenging but achievable based on historic data, seasonal trends and current momentum.

This allows us to shape our monthly review meetings around what we have achieved in line with the targets, what held us back and what learnings we will be applying to the following month. This performance-driven management of your marketing tactics keeps upward pressure on your brand’s growth and provides you with full confidence that we’re working to achieve your goals every day.

You’ll have access to a dedicated dashboard at all times, showing results, targets and wider tactical plans – including seasonal calendars, stock updates, product launches, promotional calendars, etc.

While we typically run one monthly review meeting, we know that collaboration is a key ingredient to successful ecommerce marketing. For that reason, you’re encouraged to reach out to your account managers any time you need with questions or updates – just as you would any other member of your team.

As a true ecommerce marketing agency, we don’t just work on single marketing channels in silo. We are specialists across the entire ecommerce ecosystem; from CRO and web design, to PPC, SEO and Social, to data and email marketing.

Every quarter, we step back and assess the bigger picture – reviewing each link in the ecommerce chain to uncover weak points, efficiency gains and new opportunities. But we don’t just identify improvements, we are able to implement them, whether they’re site-level optimisations, user experience improvements, content or creatives optimisation, email flows and data usage, or marketing campaigns.

When you bring together an integrated marketing strategy and a sustainable implementation plan with performance-focused management and 360 ecommerce marketing coverage, that is when ecommerce brands unlock unstoppable growth.

The Process

Sit down with us, and we’ll learn what marketing you’re after

That can cover the traditional routes like print, digital, packaging and sponsorship.

But if you want us to, we’ll dream up wilder, one-off events too – something that grabs an audience and pulls them towards you.

01

Solid Foundations

Because having an effective strategy and implementation plan is pivotal to success, we start our journey together with a strategy workshop. This is where your industry knowledge is combined with our marketing expertise to create the best ecommerce marketing strategy for your brand, that clearly states how we will reach new target customers, turn them into paying customers and keep them returning to us.

To measure the success of our efforts and to highlight what we need to do more of, we will require robust tracking across your marketing channels and your site. That is why we set up our advanced server-side tracking as standard before we begin our tactics. This tracking has been carefully designed to maximise the volume of data captured, fully compliantly, and reported in a dashboard that allows actionable insights to be taken.

02

Launch

With our foundations solidified, it’s time to launch our marketing activities. This is where we implement the specific tactics that we identified and agreed in our strategy workshop. Depending on your brand’s current position and goals, this could be to maximise short-term returns to allow reinvestment or it could be strip down your current activities to make your overall marketing more efficient and profitable.

03

Targets & Accountability

Most marketing agencies will take each month as it comes and try their best in the moment. We are much more proactive and set performance targets each month that are challenging but achievable based on: previous performance data, seasonal trends and current growth momentum.

Our monthly review meetings are then all shaped around performance achieved in line with the targets set, what learnings we’re taking from this last month and what are plans are for the following month to reach the next targets. All performance results and targets are accessible at any time on a dedicated dashboard, where wider tactical plans can also be logged (for example, seasonal plans, stock updates, promotional calendars, etc.)

This performance-driven management keeps upward momentum on your brand’s performance and allows you to be completely confident that we’re constantly working to achieve your goals.

Collaboration is a key ingredient to ecommerce success so, even though we typically have one monthly review meeting, you are welcome to reach out to your account managers with any questions or updates just as you would any other member of your team.

04

Ongoing Strategic Management

Many agencies also have a blinkered view of marketing, focusing only on individual channels in silo. As a true ecommerce marketing agency, we step back and see the bigger picture.
As standard, we conduct Quarterly Strategy Reviews with you, where we assess the data behind every link in the ecommerce chain to uncover any weak points and efficiency gains that we can implement.

With our skillset we are not only able to identify wider areas that need improving but we can also implement those improvements with you – whether they are site-level optimisations, improvements in design and collateral, content pillars, email flows, data usage, paid marketing campaigns, etc.

In these Quarterly Strategy Reviews we also take the opportunity to review performance with the original marketing strategy, comparing pace and making any adjustments as needed.

05

Growing to the Next Phase

Once sufficient growth and profits have been achieved, we can then look to implement the next phase of the original marketing strategy, moving down the road map and achieving sustained growth through marketing.

Ecommerce Marketing FAQs

An ecommerce marketing agency is specifically designed to support brands that sell their products through online stores. Traditional digital marketing agencies provide one dimensional support on individual channels like PPC and SEO independently. In this approach, performance will quickly reach a ceiling as there is only so much channels can do independently.

An ecommerce marketing agency is specialised across the entire ecommerce ecosystem. So even if you are only engaged with an ecommerce marketing agency for one channel (e.g. PPC), they can identify and act when other elements hold back performance – for example the CRO or UX of a site, the creatives used in ads or the copy and content onsite. Being able to act and remove limiting factors, whether it is across one or multiple channels, means that the brand can continue to grow for longer.

At Create8, we go even further by building integrated strategies from the start and implementation plans to allow managed, predictable and sustainable growth for your brand.

No, our approach is to scale up investment, returns and growth one step at a time. That often means starting with one marketing channel, for example PPC, and then introducing others when returns and resource allows.

We analyse several factors, such as:

  • Your current activities and their respective performance
  • Your target customers’ behaviours and where they are most active or reachable
  • Your competitors’ actions on where they can be more easily outperformed
  • Which channels suit your product and its position in the market

And when we bring that understanding in line with your specific goals, that will highlight the best areas to focus to begin with.

While this can vary based on many different factors, many brands begin seeing improvements within the first 4 – 8 weeks. Typically, more substantial and sustained growth is achieved by month 3.

In any case, we always set targets from the outset of our work together, completely tailored to your brand and circumstances, and based on what we believe is challenging but achievable.

We always set performance targets in our work together. The targets that are set are based on your own commercial goals and the channels that are used. Where only one or two channels are used, goals will centre around those respective channels – for example, focusing on customer acquisition cost or ROAS for PPC, authority growth or click-through-rate for SEO.

Where more than one channel is used, we don’t just report on channel-specific KPIs but also an overall return on marketing investment figure (sometimes referred to as Marketing Efficiency Ratio) which takes into account all spend on marketing, including agency fees.

Measurement of performance is crucial for effective marketing and consistent growth. That’s why we set up our advanced server-side tracking as standard. This measures all key ecommerce events on your store from all channels as standard, and can also be extended to cover any unique events needed by your store.

As part of the onboarding process, our team will identify which metrics are the best key indicators of performance (KPIs) in line with your goals – for example ROAS, Customer Acquisition Cost, Customer Lifetime Value, Organic Rankings, etc. Our strategies, tactics and reporting will then all be based on these specifically defined KPIs and the targets that are set for those metrics.

Where multiple channels are used, we also consolidate overall costs and returns together to produce an overall Return on Marketing Investment figure. This is sometimes also referred to as Marketing Efficiency Ratio (MER).

Yes, we have in-house experts across creative design, web design, copy writing, user experience and web development – all specialising in ecommerce brands.

The goal of our initial strategy is to create a road map and identify which channels and tactics are to be implemented at what stage. This means you don’t end up paying for unnecessary channels or tactics that your brand is not ready to fully exploit yet.

One of our unique selling points is that we offer scale pricing in line with the growth we know you can achieve. So, once we’ve established which channels will be activated when, we don’t just expect you to pay the full price from month one, we offer a lower monthly retainer fee towards the start of the term and then increase it to the full price of the service towards the end – making it even easier for you to scale your brand.

The final price of the retainer will be confirmed up front in our proposal that is unique to your brand, and will depend on the volume of work and the number of channels included.

Wherever we uncover additional one-off projects or improvements that can be made in our quarterly strategy review (e.g. CRO/UX improvements to the site, creative improvements, etc.) these will be quoted and billed separately – you will never be paying for any services that aren’t being used.

Yes. Many ecommerce brands have some elements of the marketing function already being managed in-house – such as brand, content, social or email managers (etc.) A major part of our strategy workshop is to collaborate with your existing team members and understand their plans and progress so far, and how Create8 can slot in and work alongside them in aid of the same goals.

We operate across three connected divisions: acquisition, conversion, and retention.

When any one of these is misaligned, growth stalls. Get them right, and you build stronger connections, generate demand, and convert more customers.
